How Physiospace Virtual Yoga Supported Me in 2020

Physiospace virtual yoga: finding connection

Over the years, I have taken plenty of yoga classes, though never as regularly as I would have wanted, and I have never managed it well by myself. This year has brought something of a breakthrough: Osk’s virtual yoga sessions have been exactly what I needed. I now take several yoga and pilates classes each week, and the gains for both my physical and mental wellbeing have been invaluable.

Virtual classes elsewhere have not suited me, because it is far too easy either to lose focus before they finish or not to log on in the first place. With Osk’s sessions, however, I have felt genuinely included. I look forward to seeing her and the familiar faces on screen, and I feel part of a community. My home backs on to Physiospace, so I can spot the warm light in the studio window while classes are taking place. Although I have chosen not to go in person, I still unroll my mat with a real feeling of belonging.

Keeping mind and body in balance

I enjoy variety and tend to handle stressful periods by moving constantly and quickly between projects. For me, that approach generally works, provided my body does not fail me. Naturally, keeping mind and body balanced is crucial. “Something to do, something to love, something to hope for” has normally served me well, and it mattered more than ever in 2020, when all of us had to dig deeper than before.

My connection with Physiospace helped rescue and sustain me through isolation, injury and bereavement in 2020. Particularly as I get older, it matters enormously that my body can cope with what I ask of it. Alongside walking and cycling, yoga and pilates are the ways I stay fit and flexible and, ultimately, happy.

The feeling after yoga

My favourite posture is probably not a posture at all: it is the quiet calm inside and the physical lift I feel once a yoga session ends.

“This too shall pass” is a mantra that helps me.

…… and ……. breathe.
