What being Yoga Alliance Accredited means

With an increasing number of Yoga teacher training courses now available, it is important to understand what it means to be Yoga Alliance Accredited.

Yoga Alliance International (YAI) is a global network of committed, like-minded individuals and organisations working to uphold authentic Yoga.

Inspired by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother of Pondicherry, YAI was established by Swami Vidyanand, a respected Yoga Master, with further support from Sri K.M. Chandrashekaran, whose interest in Yoga has spanned his lifetime.

YAI operates through several divisions worldwide, each headed by a committed Director. These Directors represent YAI in their own countries and share a strong dedication to preserving authentic Yoga traditions.

The standards required by YAI are designed to uphold a consistent quality of teaching that honours the integrity and authenticity of Yoga.

YAI certifies yoga teachers from every tradition, style and yoga school. Registered teacher-training programmes, ranging from 200 hour-500 hour, must likewise fulfil the required standards.

Its Registry gives teachers’ knowledge, training and experience worldwide recognition. This enables people to work confidently with a yoga professional, knowing their training satisfies the standards established by YAI.

A teacher or school registered with Yoga Alliance International may use YAI-CYT (Yoga Alliance International Certified Yoga Teacher) or YAI-CYS (Yoga Alliance International Certified Yoga School) after their name. The recognised logo may also be displayed on their website.

Currently, more than 80 Directors, known as YAI Ambassadors, along with regional and continental Alliance representatives, work across countries around the world.

I am now registered to facilitate my own 100hr, 200hr and 300hr TTC courses in both Hatha and Vinyasa.
