Yogapero: Yoga, Aperitifs and Wine in Corsica

Yogapero: the ideal way to spend an evening

Yogapero is the perfect evening pairing: a 60-minute Yoga Vinyasa Flow class, followed by delicious, healthy aperitifs prepared by Lara and, naturally, a glass or two of wine.

Lara and I coined this playful name when we were co-hosting my first Yoga retreat in Corsica as Destination Namaste.

Evening Yoga in Figari

Spring evenings in Figari are wonderfully captivating, with the sun not starting to set until 9 pm. Every night offers an entirely different quality of sunset light: sometimes a pink glow, sometimes dramatic sunsets framed by clouds and, if you are fortunate, a red sky slowly sinking behind the mountain range.

While holding the retreat in Figari, Destination Namaste made the most of these beautiful evenings. The villa provided an exceptionally suitable setting. The evening Yoga class could be held either on the terrace, looking out over the marquee and distant goat-filled fields, or poolside, amongst wild lavender and rosemary. We truly had an abundance of wonderful options.

Evening classes are a little less dynamic, while remaining a Vinyasa Flow practice. They are sequenced to give you 60 minutes to relax, switch off from the day and reconnect with yourself: a gentle practice centred on breathing, flexibility and strength.

Aperitifs prepared by Lara

As I taught the class, Lara would seemingly effortlessly put together an incredible selection of aperitifs.

There were steamed artichoke hearts with basil and balsamic vinaigrette, alongside freshly chopped carrot, courgette, radish and celery served with hummus and tzatziki. Then came the cheese platters, featuring locally made goat's cheese, croquettes and bread-the ideal accompaniment to chestnut spread and fig jams, both staple island delicacies.

And that was not all: freshly made quiche followed, as did flatbreads topped with roasted peppers and goat's feta.

All of this could be enjoyed in good conversation over a glass of organic, locally harvested and produced island wine.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to celebrate every evening this way? Yoga, healthy food, a glass of wine, great company and spectacular countryside scenery.
