Yoga Retreat, 25–28 October 2018

This October, join me and a number of Johannesburg- and Cape-based Yoga teachers at Honeywood Farm for a Yoga Retreat created especially for Yoga teachers.

I do not know about you, but as a Yoga teacher, I often find it difficult to attend Yoga classes.

So why not create a Yoga Retreat at Honeywood Farm?

This rustic, family-run farm lies less than three hours from Cape Town and provides sweeping views, fresh country air, various accommodation choices and countless perfect places for Yoga practice.

The Moodie family has owned Honeywood Farm since 1817. Bordering the wild, spectacular Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve beneath the Langeberg Mountains, it is a paradise for nature lovers. A wide choice of activities is available, including hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching, horse riding, and swimming in rivers and pools, all within a tranquil and secure setting.

After experiencing Honeywood Farm, you will see its potential as a Yoga retreat venue.

What to expect

  • Beautiful surroundings, from sweeping lawns to secluded forests, for Yoga practice.
  • Tasty, hearty home-cooked meals.
  • Morning and evening Yoga practice led by a selection of leading South African teachers, featuring varied Yoga styles.
  • Daily excursions and/or activities to choose from.
  • An introductory workshop in beekeeping and honey production.
  • Ample free time to relax and discover everything the farm has to offer.
  • Opportunities to discuss your individual requirements with John and Miranda Moodie if you would like to host your own Yoga retreat at Honeywood Farm.

Meet your teachers:

Catherine Leong – http://www.yogaventure.co.za

Catherine completed her vinyasa yoga teacher training with Yoga Warrior in 2016. She wanted to share her love of yoga in the safest and most effective way she could. Catherine believes that the mind is a powerful tool, and that integrating it with physical practice is essential. She will never stop learning; yoga keeps her, both literally and figuratively, on her toes.

Catherine’s classes offer dynamic, challenging and playful sequences.

Lia Mundell – http://www.yoga-lova.com/pages/lia-mundell

“My little boy once asked me why I do yoga, and for a moment I couldn’t think of a straight answer.” says Lia. At first, Yoga was the one place where she felt blissfully alone while still being surrounded by like-minded practitioners. Lia became a teacher because she wanted to pursue something far bigger than herself: the chance to pass on some of what she had learned to others.

A born-and-bred Jozi girl, Lia admits that she is surrounded by the everyday bustle of city life. Raising a very busy, bubbly little boy as a single mum while starting her own PR company can both be demanding. Teaching yoga provides a small sanctuary in her week, allowing her to connect with and guide students through such a healing tradition.

Lia teaches with the utmost attention to form and detail, with absolute warmth and kindness.

Theresa Moodie – http://www.theresamoodie.com

Theresa spent years working as a personal trainer. Through her own self-practice, she discovered Yoga and recognised the benefits of combining it with her existing expertise.

After completing her 500-hour advanced TTC with Shakti Yoga last year, she enjoys teaching a blend of styles, including Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be hosting this Yoga Retreat at Honeywood Farm. A huge thank-you to all the wonderful teachers who have volunteered to teach classes during the retreat.”

Saskia Van Leeuwen – https://www.facebook.com/yogaswellendam/

Saskia is the founder of Yoga Swellendam. She has completed a 200-hour YTT in Vinyasa yoga at the Yandara Yoga Institute in Bali. Saskia combines yoga, creativity and mindfulness to support personal transformation.

Watch out for the exciting Yoga Retreats offered through Yoga Swellendam. Saskia brings together a range of playful activities, such as bread making and Yoga.

Saskia will teach a Yin class during the Yoga retreat.

Rose Hay – https://web.facebook.com/RoseHayYoga/

Rose completed her 200-hour Traditional Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training at The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Meenakashi Ashram in Madurai, India, in 2012.

After relocating to Suurbraak, she became involved in permaculture and off-grid living. While recovering from a wrist injury, Rose discovered restorative Yin Yoga. She has taught Yin yoga classes for Marlien Wright’s Yoga Kitchen Retreats at the Hideaway, as well as guiding retreat guests in meditation and nature walks in the nearby reserves.

Motherhood has made Rose realise how much she actually NEEDS yoga in her life. Rose is looking forward to teaching Yoga in Suurbraak to the community and visitors. Yin yoga is her favourite teaching style.

Domenique Hendricks – http://www.worldsviewyoga.com/

Domenique has always been passionate about yoga’s enormous benefits and became a teacher because she was eager to share them with others. Her yoga journey started in Australia, and she completed her teacher training in Cape Town in 1986 at Ananda Kutir Ashram. Domenique went on to study yoga and Ayurveda in both India and Sri Lanka, and founded World’s View Yoga Studio in Somerset West. Her additional qualifications include Laughter Yoga and Pranic Healing. By embracing the physical, mental and spiritual dimensions of our being, yoga offers a route to optimal health and wellbeing: an antidote to modern-day stress.

Domenique teaches traditional Hatha and encourages students to work within their own ability.
