Benefits of yoga for children – what does yoga offer kids?
Yoga provides a wide range of benefits for kids, supporting their physical, emotional and mental development. Just as adults benefit from practising yoga, children can develop better self-awareness, co-ordination and relaxation.
By its nature, yoga encourages balance and harmony between the mind and body. The earlier children can learn and use these helpful techniques, the better.
Children also live in a very fast-paced modern society. They receive a constant stream of information from numerous sources and, like adults, can easily become overwhelmed or overstimulated.
Yoga can offer children a much-needed coping tool, helping them build resilience and mindfulness.
Their growing bodies may benefit from yoga too, through improved overall strength and flexibility.
Yoga has also been shown to improve concentration and focus. Practising yoga can strengthen the connection between mind and body, which is said to promote a sense of confidence, emotional regulation and awareness.
When taught correctly as part of yoga practice, breathing exercises can help children manage anxiety, hyperactivity and situations that may feel difficult to navigate.
