Upcoming 200hr Hatha Teacher Training Course 2023
Searching for an upcoming 200hr Hatha Teacher Training course for 2023? This course is ideal if you value a small, intimate learning environment.
A four-part 200hr Hatha Yoga teacher training course
I will be running a further four-part 200hr Hatha Yoga teacher training course in 2023.
Delivered across five months, the course comprises modules of approximately four weeks each, with a one-week break between modules. Classes are held twice weekly: on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. A self-paced learning element is also included.
Each lecture session lasts 2 hours 30 minutes. You may attend either in the studio in Parkwood, Johannesburg, or online via Zoom.
Module 1 – primarily a theoretical module
This module explores Yoga theory, history and philosophy, alongside Yoga Nidra and meditation. Additional subjects include:
- Various Yoga styles and their relevance
- Examining ancient Yoga texts
- Why Yoga should not be mistaken for a religion
- Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras
- Yoga as a way of life
- Common misconceptions about Yoga
- Yoga Nidra practice
- An introduction to meditation
- Traditional Yoga and how it has evolved
Assessment includes a book review and the practical teaching of a Yoga Nidra.
Module 2 – practical teaching components
Building on the first module, this section focuses more closely on practical teaching elements.
- Pawanamuktasana and asanas, with a substantial practical focus
- The skill of sequencing
- Pranayama breathing techniques
- An introduction to Sanskrit
- An introduction to Ayurvedic principles
Assessment includes a written paper on a chosen topic within Ayurvedic practice, plus teaching a short lesson on pranayama and the Pawanamuktasana series.
Module 3 – theoretical and self-paced pre-recorded anatomy lessons
This module is particularly important to me. Many Yoga teacher training courses provide very limited material on applied anatomy. This programme dedicates 30 hours to the subject, including an exploration and understanding of where the subtle bodies overlap.
Parts of this module will be delivered through live online or in-studio lectures, combined with pre-recorded workshops.
- Anatomy of the physical and subtle bodies
- A strong theoretical focus on the skeletal and muscular systems, breathing mechanics, and the joints in detail
- An introduction to the chakra systems
- The Pancha Kosha model
- The Prana bodies
- An introduction to mudras
- Integrating the two systems
- The spinal column, brain and nervous system
- Preventing and understanding common injuries
Each anatomy module includes tests. You will need to submit a written assignment on either the chakra system, Prana bodies or Pancha Kosha model. We will also cover a practical assessment involving the teaching of selected poses with modified variations.
Module 4 – bringing it all together
The final module combines all course content. Lectures will concentrate on substantial practical work and theoretical revision, including Yoga for particular populations and/or contraindications. It also includes guidance on finding your individual teaching voice and preferred teaching style.
We will additionally consider the business side of Yoga, managing different online platforms and hybrid teaching models.
You will be required to teach a 60-minute Hatha class based around a theme of your choice.
Course fees, dates and further training
The fee for each module is R 5400, with a 10% discount available for any continuing modules. A minimum of 3 participants is required for the course to run.
The course is due to begin at the end of February 2023 and continue until the end of July.
